Ex-CIA-Agent Robert Michaels (Bruce Willis) löst ein Versprechen ein, das er seinem Erzfeind, dem Schwerverbrecher Frederick Balzary (Chad Michael Murray), gegeben hatte: Mit Hilfe seines von ihm entfremdeten Sohns Paul (Jesse Metcalfe) befreit er Balzarys verschleppte Ehefrau Sasha (Natali Yura) aus der Gewalt von Terroristen.
